In The Lab

.
Since Last Post P/L: £70.37
Monthly P/L: £70.37

After all the recent events and with expected quiet periods around the corner, necessity has demanded that I start looking at additional ways of generating a profit. American Football & Horse Racing were likely candidates but my efforts so far have drawn a blank and it’s clear my strategies need to be reviewed. However, there is a glimmer of hope. Online poker is now so accessible that I’m beginning to think just maybe I can turnover a small consistent revenue stream from playing cash games.

This could be a silly idea but I’ve played the game on and off now for the last few years and I seem to be getting a little better. Maybe it’s time to make a serious effort and approach the game in the same way as my trading? With decisions needing to be made constantly I’m expecting my discipline to be severely tested but the early signs are promising and if I set aside a small starting bank then I won’t be risking the world if things go tits-up. A mate of mine recently appeared on the TV show 'How To Become A Poker Millionaire' and this got me thinking - now what did someone once tell me about big things being possible from small beginnings?

Here’s a list of my losses for the month so far :-) :

Poker : £12.24

Horse Racing : £3.55

American Football : £79.06

Hi Mate - I too have thought about new markets but instead of giving them a go I decided to take a few days off. Now I am back I am going to be looking at several markets like yourself.

I mentioned a while ago on my blog about giving poker a go as it was a good alternative to the racing as it is there 24/7 which means in the winter when a lot of racing is off I can continue to hopefully make money by playing poker instead. I did ok to begin with but then haven't touched it for a while though perhaps it is time to get back into it!

Best of luck as always!

Mark,

You seem to be proficient with limited overs cricket trading. Have you thought about test cricket? There is plenty on over the winter and not all of it at anti-social hours.it is even possible to successfully trade the anti-social games by looking to be more selective and taking longer positions.

Hi Leon,

Yep, I read about you having a go at poker a while back and had wondered if you'd kept it going.

In may just be a pipe dream but I' need to find some money from somewhere!

All the best,

Mark

Hi James,

You're right - I need to make Test match criket pay. The difficulty I've had with this in the past has been in taking longer term positions. This is because the trades I make in limited over cricket are normally done and dusted within a few minutes. You can imagine how hard it will be for me to monitor and let a trade ride for potentially hours!

However, I do intend to get involved in the 1st Test between India and Australia so watch this space!

All the best and thanks for the comment.
